Social AI Workshop: AI for Social Sciences

The Social AI CDT held a full-day workshop on 26th February 2025 at the Advanced Research Centre, University of Glasgow. The event featured engaging talks and hands-on sessions exploring AI’s transformative potential in the social sciences.

Delivered by AI experts, the workshop aimed to (see below for details).

  1. Explain human behaviour with Vision AI,
  2. Demonstrate the power of Large Language Models (LLMs),
  3. Offer valuable insights into AI’s impact on social sciences research and practice, and
  4. Facilitate discussions on cutting-edge technologies, practical applications, and future opportunities in the field.

Vision AI for Social Sciences: From Theory to Practice
Olga Perepelkina and Oliver Hamilton from Intel explored the fascinating world of Vision AI and its connections to social sciences by delivering talks on the following:

  • Computer vision, and how it relates to the social sciences.
  • Use cases and applications in research and real-world scenarios.

Large Language Models for Social Sciences
Grigory Sapunov, from Intento explored the transformative role of LLMs in the social sciences by delivering talks on the following:

  • Introduction to LLMs: What they are and how they work.
  • From LLMs to Agents: Discover how LLMs can be extended to act as intelligent agents in research and application.
